Sportslink does not currently have a community centre of our own to operate from — every session we deliver relies on us hiring a site. This makes it harder to plan, invest in equipment, and offer the kind of consistent, always-open base that children, young people and families can rely on.
We are asking Tower Hamlets Council to make the vacant Community Hub building within Meath Gardens Park available to Sportslink, so that we finally have a permanent home from which to deliver our programmes for the local community.
Meath Gardens Park is where Sportslink runs the majority of its sport, youth work and community activity — but our use of the site is not currently secure for the long term. Adding your name tells the Council that local people want to see this space used, for the long term, for community sport, youth work and learning.
Long-term plan for the changing rooms. The changing rooms at Meath Gardens would be developed to include a community gym, with male-focused and female-focused provision.
Sportslink created a running and walking pathway at Meath Gardens Park. We run every Sunday at Meath Gardens, and created the Community Run programme, supported by CKW – Communities Keeping Well.
The pathway is open to everyone — a safe, free way for local people to get active together.
A future mosque facility, built by young people. The space behind and to the right of the changing rooms could also be used for a future mosque facility built by young people — the first mosque built by Tower Hamlets young people. The area needs a prayer/mosque facility, especially for Friday congregations.
