Our Policies

Inspiring communities through sports!

Safeguarding, conduct, health & safety, equality, data protection and complaints — how Sportslink keeps children, young people and adults safe.

About these policies

Sportslink delivers sport, youth work, learning and community support in Tower Hamlets, including from Meath Gardens Park and in local schools. These policies apply to everyone who works with, volunteers for, or takes part in our activities.

They are reviewed every year and whenever the law or guidance changes. Version 1.0 · Approved October 2026 · Next review October 2027.

Our 10 Policies at a glance

POLICY 01

Code of Conduct

Sets the standards of behaviour we expect from staff, coaches, volunteers, participants, parents and spectators. Our values are respect, safety, inclusion, integrity, and enjoyment and progress. Staff work in an open environment, hold enhanced DBS checks and report every concern to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).

POLICY 02

Children's Safeguarding Policy

Every child has the right to be protected from harm, abuse and neglect. We follow the Children Act, Working Together to Safeguard Children and Tower Hamlets procedures. Staff are safely recruited, trained, and know exactly what to do if a child shares a concern — listen, never promise secrecy, record and report to the DSL.

POLICY 03

Adult Safeguarding Policy

Protects any adult at risk of abuse or neglect at our coffee mornings, advice sessions, training and community sport. Based on the Care Act 2014 and the six safeguarding principles, we support adults to make their own choices while acting quickly when someone is at risk.

POLICY 04

Lost Child Policy

Registers and headcounts at every session, clear boundaries and safe collection arrangements help prevent a child going missing. If a child is missed we search at once, contact parents within 5 minutes and call the police if the child is not found within 10 minutes.

POLICY 05

Health & Safety Policy

We take all reasonably practicable steps to keep everyone safe, in line with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. Every venue and activity is risk assessed, pre-session checks are carried out, and a qualified first aider is present at every session.

POLICY 06

Zero Tolerance Policy

Our staff and volunteers have the right to work without abuse, threats or violence. Verbal abuse, aggression, discrimination, harassment and online abuse are not accepted, and may lead to removal, a ban or a report to the police.

POLICY 07

Equality & Diversity Policy

Sport is for everyone. In line with the Equality Act 2010 we do not discriminate on any of the nine protected characteristics. We run girls- and women-only sessions, respect faith and culture, and make reasonable adjustments for disability and additional needs.

POLICY 08

Data Protection Policy

We handle personal information lawfully, fairly and securely under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Information is never sold, is kept only as long as needed, and everyone can ask to see the information we hold about them.

POLICY 09

Behaviour Policy

Our sessions should be safe, fair and fun. Coaches praise effort and respect, and respond to unacceptable behaviour in calm, clear steps suited to each person’s age and needs. We never use physical punishment or humiliation.

POLICY 10

Complaints Procedure

Everyone has the right to complain. Most concerns are resolved informally within 5 working days; formal complaints are acknowledged within 3 working days and answered in writing within 20 working days, with a right to review.

This page shows a short summary of each policy. For the complete wording, procedures and key contact numbers, please read the full document.
